Tithorea is built on the northeastern foothills of Parnassos, at an elevation of 440 meters. Until 1926 it was called Velitsa, when it was renamed Tithorea, after the ancient Phocian city of Tithorea, which was located in exactly the same place. The ruins of ancient Tithorea can still be seen among the houses of the settlement, while the wall that surrounded the city survives in very good condition. The hallmark of the village is the impressive plane tree that stands in the central square and dates to 1887.

Beside the picturesque village stretches the impressive Kachala Gorge, also known as the Tithorea Gorge. Hiking in the gorge is a unique experience for nature lovers as a few kilometers later it joins the impressive mountaineering route that includes crossing the Velitsa ravine and the ascent to the highest peak of Parnassos, Liakoura, at an elevation of 2.456 meters.

Along the route you will see a traditional abandoned watermill as well as the Cave of Odysseas Androutsos (also known as «Black Hole»), which served as the refuge and base of the chieftain during the Revolution. Above the village towers the Tithorea Aesthetic Forest,a lush green paradise and one of the 19 aesthetic forests of Greece. Towering firs, pines, oaks, cedars, shrubs and many other plant species compose a landscape of unparalleled beauty.
