A few kilometers from Nafpaktos, lies a picturesque seaside village with its own «blue lagoon».
Beyond its picturesque mountain villages, Fokida also hides «treasures» where the waves break. Beautiful beaches and serene seaside villages will make you feel as if you’re on an island. Just 12 km from Nafpaktos, you will come upon Monastiraki, one of Fokida’s most picturesque seaside villages, with the lovely Parathalasso beach and the little «blue lake».
Monastiraki of Fokida with the «blue lake»
MonastirakiFokidas is built amphitheatrically on the hillside, to the right of the Nafpaktos – Itea National Road and it reaches the waters of the Corinthian Gulf. The village takes its name from the monastery that existed in the late Byzantine period and stood on the site where the parish church of Evangelist Mark stands today.
The village strongly evokes an island: it has cobbled lanes, old houses with balconies facing the sea, and a small picturesque harbor around which you’ll find tavernas, restaurants and cafés. 500 meters west of the village lies the organized beach of Parathalasso, with umbrellas and sunbeds set on a long narrow strip of land with fine pebbles. It is one of Fokida’s most distinctive beaches, with crystal-clear, deep-blue waters.
One of the most impressive features of the beach is the small «lake» that forms just behind the shore - locals call it «blue lake».It is a small, enclosed wetland, separated from the sea by only a narrow strip of land.
To the west, the cove of Monastiraki is protected by a narrow rocky strip, which ends at the cape «Kokkinovrachos» that separates Monastiraki from the neighboring settlement of Chiliadou.
