Parga has nothing to envy of an island. The stunning beaches on the shimmering blue-green waters of the Ionian Sea and the amphitheatrically built settlement with its beautiful houses and narrow alleys have made this picturesque seaside town of Epirus one of the most beloved destinations for summer getaways by car.

The colorful houses climbing the hill, the picturesque cove where the verdant islet of Panagia nestles, and the imposing Venetian castle create one of the most striking postcards of Greece. Where Epirus meets the Ionian Sea you will discover a unique setting for tranquil holidays with an island vibe.

The wonderful beaches of Parga

Pargas strong suit is its impressive beaches. Within the town you will find Kryoneri, which faces the islet of Panagia.Immediately to the east lies Piso Kryoneri, a small beach also within the settlement of Parga, framed by tall rocks. To the west of Parga stretches perhaps the areas most famous beach, Valtos.

To the east, 3 km.outside the town, is Lichnos beach, which also has two small sea caves. The beach is sandy, but also has pebbly spots and is considered oneof the most beautiful.

About 6 km. east of Parga, after the Kalodiki wetland, is Ai Giannakis, while near the village of Agia you will come upon the enchanting Sarakiniko bay.Agios Sostis, Spartila andPogoniaare a few more beaches worth seeing, if you have access to a boat.

What to do in Parga

  • Take a stroll along the cobbled lanes of the old town and discover blooming neighborhoods with well-kept little houses and colorful mansions.
  • Savor the best views of the Ionian Sea by climbing up to the imposing Venetian castle, which was built by the Normans in the14th century andtookits present form under the Venetians. In the central area, in fact, two main buildings have been reconstructed, hosting theatrical performances and exhibitions.

  • You can even swim to the lush green islet of Panagia, opposite Pargas harbor, which owes its name to the church of Panagia with the picturesque bell towerthat stands there. At the islands highest point there is a beautiful castle, built by the French conquerors in 1808.
  • Between Anthousa and Agia, on a height commanding the entire Parga area, stands the imposing castle of Ali Pasha. The castle was built in 1814 by Ali Pasha of Ioannina, intended to serve as his base during the siege of Parga.
  • It is worth adding to your itinerary a visit tothe most important Necromanteion of antiquity, the Necromanteion of Acheron, located about 20 km.from Parga.
