Sarakiniko: Dive into Pargas exotic beach

A few kilometers from Parga, Sarakiniko is a paradise with turquoise waters for unforgettable swims.

Parga, with its colors, the Venetian castle and the island atmosphere that enchants the visitor from the first moment, is one of the most beloved seaside destinations in Epirus and among the most distinctive in Greece. One of the main reasons Parga attracts thousands of travelers every summer is its impressive beaches. Among them, Sarakiniko stands out, a sandy beach that combines serenity, turquoise waters and a sense of a tropical landscape.

The areas legend

Legend has it that the beachs name comes from the pirates who arrived in the area centuries ago. The pirates were shipwrecked on the beach and, disguised as merchants, asked the locals for help. After being invited to a wedding, they decided to steal the bride and plunder the area and the locals, but they did not succeed thanks to the bravery of the inhabitants, who drove them away.

The natural beauty of Sarakiniko

Just about 12 km from Parga, Sarakiniko opens onto the Ionian Sea and looks like a natural pool. Although it is on mainland Greece, it recalls a beach on an Ionian island or even an exotic destination. For years it was a well-kept secret among locals, but today it fills with visitors from all over Greece.

The first thing that will impress you is the golden sand, which gives way to crystal-clear waters that deepen gradually. All around, greenery embraces the beach, which is sheltered and ideal even for families. The seabed at Sarakiniko is mesmerizing and transparent, inviting visitors to endless dives and snorkeling. The beach is organized with sunbeds, but it also has free space to set up your umbrella. The secret is to arrive early, so you can secure a good spot or visit at a time when it is not too crowded.

For those who want to spend more days close to the beach and visit it more than once, there are hotels and rooms to let both in the area and in the surrounding villages, such as Agia and Anthousa. Choose accommodation near Sarakiniko and the nearby villages if you want quicker access to the beach, as well as to avoid the crowds of Parga.

Access to the beach

Access to Sarakiniko is by car from Parga, covering about 12 km. After the main road and the village of Agia, you turn onto a road that passes through an impressive natural landscape, but you should be careful because it is quite narrow. There is parking at the beach, but it is better to arrive early in the morning so you do not struggle to find a spot.

However, for those who do not want to drive or do not have a car, there is also the option to get there by taxi or by a small boat that departs from the port of Parga and runs services to the areas beaches. The trip by kaiki offers a different experience, as you see the coastline from the sea and enjoy the beauty of the Ionian.
