We discovered the local products of Corfu with a tour of the Lazaris Distillery & Artisan Sweets shops and packed them in our suitcases.
Cosmopolitan Corfu is an endless source of inspiration for Lazaris Distillery & Artisan Sweets. The islands flavors and aromas are captured in their products every day, and with passion and commitment to quality they continue the story of local gastronomy. We visited their shops, learned everything about the islands authentic products, and tasted the liqueurs and local sweets.
The story of Lazaris Distillery & Artisan Sweets
The story of Lazaris Distillery & Artisan Sweets began in 2005 with Konstantinos Lazaris. Inspired by the kumquat fruit, the emblem of Corfu, as well as other local treasures, he drew on old recipes and created drinks and sweets without preservatives. With a creative eye and pure ingredients, they continue to this day with the same passion, creating new products to take with us in our luggage when leaving the island, for ourselves or as gifts.
Local liqueurs and sweets
At the Lazaris Distillery & Artisan Sweets shops we found a vast variety of products that capture Corfus authenticity and aromas. A hallmark is the traditional kumquat liqueur, a certified Protected Geographical Indication product, available in classic and creamy versions, while the award-winning limoncello and limoncello cream also stand out, as does the double-distilled Lazaris ouzo, and the award-winning Merlin Gin.
There we tasted traditional sweets such as mandolato nougat, Turkish delights, and the sykomaida fig cake with kumquat or chocolate, while on the shelves we found jams and chutneys made with local ingredients. All products are produced in small batches, without preservatives, with respect for quality, offering visitors a complete gastronomic experience that combines tradition with contemporary aesthetics.
The distillery and pastry workshops
On the road to Achilleion are the companys production units, and the distillery and pastry workshop areas are open to visitors. There you can watch the daily production up close, accompanied by rich aromas. The tour begins in the sweets workshops and, following the production process, you learn about Corfus gastronomic history. Anyone who wants to learn about the liqueurs also has the chance to discover their history and taste them. If you are on the road to Paleokastritsa, you will come across the exhibition space with a generous tasting buffet, featuring their own products as well as selected local products from Corfiot producers.
Refreshing cocktails in the city center
We singled out the elegant Lazaris shop in the city center, where from early morning coffee is served accompanied by their traditional sweets. The building, with its distinctive Corfiot architecture and modern aesthetic, impresses visitors. There we found everything we wanted to put in our luggage and gifts for our friends.
The shops smiling team made us the famed, refreshing cocktails based on the distillerys liqueurs, such as kumquat and limoncello. They packaged them artfully and we took them with us on our stroll through Corfus kantounia, the Liston and all the citys landmarks. Besides the cocktails, we also enjoyed the tasty kumquat ice cream, as well as other flavors based on Corfiot recipes.
