With knowledge and respect for the regions history but with an eye on the future.
Monemvasia, renowned for its fortified position and its famous castle, was the birthplace of the legendary «finest wine» Malvasia, which was produced in its wider region and from which it also took its name (Malvasia = Monemvasia in Frankish). Monemvasia-Malvasia wine from the 12th century and for five centuries dominated the foreign markets of East and West and gained an exceptional reputation around the world.
Continuing this great tradition, Monemvasia Winery, founded on 20 September 1997 in Velies in the Municipality of Monemvasia by Giorgos Tsimbidis, played a leading role in a long process for the international recognition of the Geographical Indication of this wine and, in the modern era, as Greek, something that was achieved.

On 23 July 2010 (anniversary of the liberation of Monemvasia) issue 1125 of the Government Gazette was published recognizing Monemvasia-Malvasia wines as a Protected Designation of Origin for sweet white wine from sun-dried grapes and liqueur wine from sun-dried grapes.
In 2013 the first PDO Monemvasia-Malvasia wine from Monemvasia Winery came to market. The famed medieval wine long lost to time was reborn in its birthplace.

The vineyards and the winery
In recent years Monemvasia Winery has created an impressive 300-stremma vineyard showcasing exceptional quality potential in local varieties, confirmed and rewarded by the successive distinctions its wines receive in International Wine Competitions. The area’s microclimate is ideal for producing outstanding dry wines as well as the sun-dried Monemvasia-Malvasia.
At the modern winery, apart from the multi-awarded PDO Monemvasia-Malvasia, a range of quality bottled wines is produced from indigenous varieties such as «Maleatis», «Laloudi», «Monemvasios», «Asproudi», «Mura Rossa», «Assyrtiko», «Kydonitsa« and «300».
