From the golden sands of Platis Gialos to the rocky landscape of Chrysopigi, Sifnos boasts many beaches for every taste, with crystal clear waters and a Cycladic aura.
Sifnos is renowned for its gastronomy, as well as for its long tradition in pottery. However, it is one of the Cycladic islands that win visitors’ impressions with their beaches. Organized or secluded, all stand out for their beauty and crystal-clear waters. In the shade offered by the tamarisk trees with the idyllic landscape as a backdrop, you will spend hours of relaxation and carefreeness. Because the beaches of Sifnos deservedly earn a place among the most beautiful in the Cyclades, we gathered fourteen that will impress you.
Platis Gialos
One of Sifnos’ most popular beaches and among the most organized in the Cyclades, Platis Gialos stretches for a long distance. With fine, golden sand and shallow, clear waters sheltered from the winds, it’s ideal for families - which is why it’s busy. It has beach bars, tavernas, hotels, shops and many options for water sports, while access is easy both from the port and from Chora.
Kamares
Kamares is the main beach at Sifnos’ port, about 5 km from Apollonia. Ideal for those staying there, it is clean and organized. Young and old play and relax on the sunbeds or on its sandy shore under the tamarisk trees. As it is the island’s largest seaside settlement, there you will find a wide range of accommodation, restaurants and cafes - beach bars.
Vathy
A quieter, picturesque beach with calm, shallow waters and fine sand, ideal for those seeking relaxation. Vathy is close to Apollonia and until the Second World War was a settlement of potters. It is one of Sifnos’ largest sandy beaches and hiking routes start from here. You will find a few little tavernas right where the waves lap the shoreand a few hotels.
Faros - Fasolou - Glyfo
If you arrive at the sheltered little harbor of Faros, you’ll realize that the choices here are truly many. The small fishing village that once served as Sifnos’ port is today among travelers’ first choices for a swim. You can dive into the small beaches next to it, Fasolou and Glyfo.
Fasolou has sand and nearby a taverna and cafe, while its view toward the rock of Chrysopigi is impressive. From Faros follow the small path that leads to Glyfoand you will find tranquility under the tamarisk trees.
Chrysopigi - Apokofto - Saoures
One of visitors’ favorite spots for plunges is the rocks beside Chrysopigi. This headland is one of the island’s most photographed places, as it is home to the monastery of Panagia Chrysopigi, patron saint of Sifnos.
Next to it you will see Apokofto, a small sandy beach without sunbeds. Most people come here for the quiet, but you will find rooms nearby and restaurants for food and coffee. Following a path, you will arrive at the neighboring little cove with the small beach Saoures which is even quieter, as it is among the island’s lesser-known beaches.
Cheronissos
Cheronissos is the island’s northernmost beach and is essentially a fishing village with few buildings. Its sandy strip is small and the waters blue-green and calm. Although it isn’t organized, there is a taverna and some accommodation, while you will also come across a ceramics workshop.
Seralia
A beach hidden below Kastro, one of the island’s most popular sights. The wild beauty at Seralia stands out, as do the rocks for the daring. The beach is among Sifnos’ most unknown spots for dips.
Vroulidia
Vroulidia beach is ideal for those seeking seclusion, as it has difficult access by car. It has pebbles, deep waters and quiet, and you will also find a restaurant- cafe.
Fikiada
Another calm and hard-to-reach one is Fikiada, between Platis Gialos and Vathy. To get there you have to walk the path through a forest, but it will reward you with its tranquility and cool waters.
Poulati
You will also need to cross a dirt road for Poulati, a beach with rocks and wild beauty. It lies in front of the little church of Panagia Poulati and is one of the island’s hidden secrets.
