Elafonisi among the best beaches in the world
In the southwestern corner of Crete, between Chrysoskalitissa Monastery and Yialos in Chania prefecture, Elafonisi beach dazzles with its pink sand and turquoise waters. As National Geographic notes, its distinctive hue - as with other similar beaches - comes from the single-celled microorganism foraminifera that has a reddish shell.
Visitors are captivated by the beachs striking pink and bright blue tones and its undulating sand dunes. In summer, the shore is filled with sunbeds and umbrellas, as it is a popular getaway for the residents of Chania and beyond.
