Lesvos: The springtime Molyvos with the blooming wisteria

Molyvos in spring is pure magic. The picturesque village in northern Lesvos enchants with its natural purple adornment.

The listed settlement, enchanting with its picturesque charm and singular aura, is also known for its "purple rivers" that bloom with the arrival of spring. This isMolyvos, Lesvos, whose alleys and courtyards are draped in wisteria, a climbing plant that produces clusters of purple blossoms around Easter, dramatically transforming the palette of the landscape.

Wisteria was widely planted in the villages where Asia Minor refugees settled across Greece, to remind them of their homelands and to act as a pergola in courtyards, cafés and squares.

What is worth mentioning about Molyvos is the fact that, in order to preserve the settlements architectural distinctiveness and traditional character, since 1965 it has been declared a protected settlement - building is not permitted unless the materials used are stone and wood.

A stroll along the cobbled lanes and the market streets covered with wisteria, is a joy.
