In the Aslan Pasha Acropolis there are also significant monuments such as the mosque of the same name, the Municipal Ethnographic Museum, the Ottoman Baths and the Soufari Serai, an emblematic building that once housed Ali Pashas cavalry school and today functions as the Historical Archive of Epirus.
Exploring the lake islet
Depending on the time you have in the city, a lovely idea is a visit to the famous Islet. In just ten minutes by boat, youll reach this inhabited island that is like no other. A stroll through alleys lined with traditional Epirote stone houses, folk-art shops, and tavernas serving local specialties -such as frog legs and Ioannina-style baklava- will transport you to another era.
The picturesque paths will lead you to monasteries of exceptional interest, such as the Monastery of Saint Nicholas Philanthropinon with its remarkable frescoes and the Monastery of Saint Panteleimon, where the Ali Pasha and Revolutionary Period Museum is housed. In the museums cases are, among other things, some unique exhibits, such as Ali Pashas famed gold-embellished flintlock and the authentic silk dress of Kyra-Vasiliki.
