In the sheltered little harbor of Kitries, Gaitanaros taverna has been serving fresh fish and seafood since 1977. In this family enterprise, fishing is serious business, so there you will taste their own fresh fish, cooked with care by the family themselves. The ingredients are from the area, with the renowned olive oil and vegetables accompanying the seafood. Right beside the sea with views across the entire beach of Stoupa, I Stoupa restaurant marries traditional flavor with a more contemporary, gourmet touch. The recipes are based on the ingredients and traditional recipes of Messenian Mani, highlighting the richness of the local cuisine. Dishes are served on the restaurants veranda, an idyllic spot for all hours of the day with the wonderful sunset. In the morning the omelets stand out, while later you will try, among others, shrimp saganaki, talagani with fig jam, Greek salad with rock samphire, traditional rooster in red sauce with hilopites, kid goat baked in the casserole, and local lamb with wild chervil. Lela’s Taverna

Lela’s Taverna has been a culinary institution in Kardamyli since 1983. With a history of four generations, it continues to serve home-style, modern Greek dishes, with an emphasis on local ingredients and seasonality. For many years, Lela Giannakea was a cook and housekeeper at the home of Joan and Patrick Leigh Fermor in Kardamyli. Her taverna sits in a seafront family home with an impressive sunset and stunning views of Kardamylis harbor, with the new generation now at the helm. The olives and olive oil - a key ingredient in their cooking - come from their own groves, while they collect mushrooms and herbs from the area themselves. Amid a lush olive grove by the sea, Elies restaurant blends the natural landscape with traditional Mani hospitality.
