The largest cities of the prefecture are Pyrgos and Amaliada.The city of Pyrgos, can serve as a base for visits to nearby areas and destinations with a prominent place in ancient and modern Greek history, with monumentsof immense cultural and national value. Ancient Olympia, is the most important of these, as it is the birthplace and the sanctuary of the Olympic Games and is known throughout the world. Just outside the city one can visit the monasteries of Zoodochos Pigiand Panagia Kremasti which are of great religious interest.In Amaliada particularly interesting are the folklore museum with traditional costumes and objects from the daily life of the residents and the monasteries of Panagia Frangavilla, in a mountainous landscape 2 km east of the town, as well as that ofSaint Nicholas of Frangopidima.
