Amorgos: Holiday Guide - The beaches, the food and the attractions

Amorgos is an island with a distinctive character, breathtaking landscapes, and an effortless sense of relaxation. That's why visitors return again and again.

Amorgos is one of the Cyclades' most distinctive islands, a destination that blends authenticity with serenity and striking natural landscapes. With daily sailings from Piraeus and a journey time of just 4 hours and 35 minutes, SEAJETS brings you closer to the Cyclades' favorite island.

The traditional Cycladic character, beaches with crystalline waters, sheer cliffs, and a distinctive atmosphere create an experience that's hard to compare with other islands. The island's worldwide fame soared after the filming of «The Big Blue» by Luc Besson, but Amorgos' real allure lies in its relaxing aura and the enchanting views over the Aegean.

The food and sweets of Amorgos

Amorgos' gastronomy is rooted in authentic Cycladic flavors and quality local products. A dish you should try is the famous patatato, the traditional goat stew in red sauce with potatoes that's the island's signature and a star at local festivals. Equally characteristic is Amorgian fava, a simple yet especially tasty recipe that showcases local ingredients. Amorgos is also renowned for its cheeses, like other Cycladic islands. Some of them are xinomyzithra, kopanisti, and ladotyri.

Amorgos' Chora, one of the most beautiful in the Cyclades, is an attraction in itself. Built at the island's center to be protected from pirates, it stands out for its whitewashed alleys, colorful doors, covered passages, windmills, and small churches. At the top looms the Venetian castle, while Gavra's Tower houses the Archaeological Museum with finds from the island's ancient cities.

The Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa

The island's most emblematic monument is the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa. The monastery, built into a sheer rock about 300 meters above the sea, with breathtaking views, is one of the Aegean's most impressive sights.
