Asteria
Asteria beach in Ermoupoli (also known as the beach of Agios Nikolaos) is not the classic sandy stretch, but a cosmopolitan rocky platform with wonderful views of the city’s neoclassical buildings. It lies just below the historic Vaporia quarter and offers sunbeds and steps leading straight into the sea. The ideal choice for those who want to pair their swim with a stroll in central Ermoupoli, without having to stray far from town.
Megas Gialos - Ambela
Megas Gialos is one of the largest beaches on Syros, with serene, shallow waters ideal for families. There are accommodations in the area, while on the beach you’ll find sunbeds and umbrellas, but also a few tamarisks that offer shade. For a quieter experience, in the neighboring bay, which you can also reach on foot, you’ll find Ambela with its blue-green waters.
Azolimnos
Just 5 km from Ermoupoli, Azolimnos is a settlement where you’ll find many accommodation options if you want to stay close but not in the city. The beach is organized and sandy, and there are tavernas and restaurants.
Santorinioi- Fabrika
In the southeastern part of the island, between Azolimnos and Vari, you’ll find the secluded Santorinioi beach. It’s a beach much loved by locals, as is Fabrika, which is very close and also tranquil.
Vari- Achladi
Vari is one of Syros’s most family-friendly beaches, thanks to its shallow, calm waters that feel like a natural pool. Delfini- Barbarousa
Next to Kini lies Delfini beach, where you’ll find fewer people. Pebbles mix with sand and blue waters, and there are spots with natural shade and a beach bar. From Kini you can walk to Barbarousa, a secluded beach where you’ll also find peace. The route is via a hiking trail or by small boat.
Gria Spilia - Grammata
Gria Spilia is a beach set within a lush green landscape, envisioned and created by the American economist John Pearson in his effort to beautify the barren side of the island. That’s why it’s also known as Amerikanos beach. It is accessible either by boat from Kini, or on foot from the Kampou area.
In Apano Meria of Syros, next to Gria Spilia, you’ll come across Grammata beach, also via a footpath. Its name came from the inscriptions on the rocks, said to have been prayers of the sailors who once anchored there.
Finikas
The settlement of Finikas has a marina for sailing yachts and many spots for walking and strolling. The beach is among the most popular, with calm waters and easy access.
