Those who love nighttime experiences have the chance to live unique moments, as the night tourism, the years new travel trend, seems to be becoming increasingly popular. Interest in dark-sky destinations is growing more and more and, as it seems, many have already put such an escape on their list. Chasing the Northern Lights may hold pride of place but the experiences do not end there, as travelers can also experience «starbathing» (where you lie back and watch the stars).
Journalist and author Stephanie Vermillon, speaking to BBC, lists some of the most distinctive nighttime experiences from end to end of the world. «The beauty of nocturnal adventures is that you see so many different sides of a destination, simply by staying up late or waking very early», she notes.
Hot springs in Iceland with a view of the Northern Lights
A lifelong dream for many, the chances to admire the nocturnal dance of the Aurora Borealis -the well-known Northern Lights- are not many. One of the truly unforgettable experiences takes place, among others, in Iceland. The period when the phenomenon is visible lasts roughly from September to April, as long as you are lucky and there is no cloud cover. In the biting cold and far from the cities, you will wait to live this unique experience. An alternative so you do not get cold, is to relax in Icelands naturally heated springs. In more than 700 of the countrys hot springs, the water is above 38 degrees Celsius. Amid the snowy landscape and the steam, the experience becomes even more special.
