At the mere mention of the word«Arachova» our mind goes straight to the well-known one on Parnassos.However, in Greece there are also other picturesque villages that share the name Arachova. And while the famous Arachova is a paradise for skiers and for those who want toenjoy the cosmopolitan life of a popular destination, the other two, lesser-known villages with the same name are ideal for thosewho seek absolute tranquility and a close connection with nature.
Arachova of Nafpaktia
At a distance of 81 km north ofNafpaktosand 52 km south of Karpenisi,you will come uponArachova of Nafpaktia,a beautiful village with captivating views of the impressive artificial lake of Evinos. Built like an amphitheater, at an elevation from 650 to 1,100 meters, on the slopes of Mount Kokkinia, the village gazes over the artificial lake and the narrows of the Evinos River. The village features traditional architecture with a stone-paved square and stone-built houses. The lush vegetation of the surrounding area, the many fountains, ravines with plane trees, cherry trees and walnut trees, and the stone threshing floors complete the scene. Both in the village and in the villages around Lake Evinos, there are hotels and rooms to let. Arachova of Nafpaktia is accessible both by the provincial road that connects it with Nafpaktos, and by the provincial road that connects it with Karpenisi and Lamia.
Arachova of Arcadia
The other, lesser-known Arachova is in thePeloponnese and specifically inArcadia. Arachova of Gortynia is a small and picturesque mountain village set in a lush green landscape, at a distance of 15 km from Dimitsana and 70 km from Tripoli. You will find it along the route after the villages of Zatouna and Melissopetra and before the villages of Raftis and Paloumba. Part of the settlement is built on the mountainside, while lower down and close to the road lies the other quarter. In the upper settlement, the regions traditional stone-built architecture is more pronounced - this is where the villages main church and central square are located. It is a true haven for those who want to come close to nature and tradition.
