Karanos, Edessa
Edessahas inseparably linked its name with its waterfalls, which are set within a unique geopark with cobbled lanes, stone bridges, and wonderful views, northeast of the city. Their natural creator is the Edessaios River, whose waters cross the town before rushing over the waterfalls. The largest and most impressive waterfall, Karanos, sends its waters down from a height of 70 meters with power and momentum, creating a dense cloud of droplets that cools the air.
Neda, Ilia/Messinia
Neda is one of the Peloponnese’s many "secrets". It flows along the border of the prefectures of Ilia and Messinia and is the best-known river in Greece with a female name. Along its course the river traverses a beautiful gorge with narrow passages and spots with magnificent waterfalls where small natural lakes with turquoise-green waters form. The Neda gorge is one of the loveliest routes every nature lover should take. The waterfalls can also be approached from the village of Platania, on the Messinia side.
Polylimnio, Messinia
One of the most impressive places in Messinia lies near the village of Charavgi, 34 km from Kalamata. It is called Polylimnio and is a truly dreamlike setting, a small wonder of nature, with lakes and waterfalls at the heart of a lush green landscape. The most famous is Lake Kadi. In its emerald waters, the imposing rocks that surround it are reflected, while the splendid waterfall that forms on one side makes it look like a fairytale.
Paleokarya, Trikala
At a distance of 25 km from the city of Trikala, there is a beautiful place, one that looks as if painted. In the Paleokarya ravine, with its dense riparian forest, the crystal-clear waters of the small Paleokaritis River flow. There, near Kato Paleokarya, amid impressive nature, stands one of the most beautiful bridges in Greece. The man-made waterfalls that fall behind the bridge from a height of 12 meters and resemble a curtain of water, as well as those that flow right in front of it, even if their own height reaches only two meters, steal the show.
Skra, Kilkis
Those who have been to the Skra waterfalls in Kilkis speak of one of the most beautiful places in Northern Greece. On the slopes of Mount Paiko, at an elevation of about 500 meters and close to the historic village of Skra, visitors behold a small wonder of nature: a watery paradise within the dense forest. Pristine nature, waters running everywhere creating rivulets, small waterfalls and a little lake, aptly called "Blue Lake", compose the ultimate setting of serenity and relaxation.
Livaditis, Xanthi
The legendary Livaditis waterfall (or Trachoni for the people of Drama) is one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in the Balkans. It is located 7 km outside the mountainous village of the same name, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. To get there, you will need to hike along a trail immersed in beeches and linden trees. The sight is unique. The waters drop vertically from a height of about 60 meters with a tremendous roar, gifting lush vegetation to the rock crevices.
Fonias, Samothraki
The famous "vathres" are one of the reasons we love Samothraki. These are small natural pools within the rocks, with crystal-clear cool waters, into which small and large waterfalls pour. The most famous is that of Fonias, 35 meters high, which is accessible via a trail.
Twin Waterfalls, Arta
Kataraktis is a village in Tzoumerka, at an elevation of 800 meters, just after Agnanta. It took its name from its main attraction, none other than the impressive twin waterfalls which are located 7 km from the village, a beautiful and rare sight. Above them stand the northwestern peaks of Tzoumerka, creating a magical landscape.
Drymonas, Evia
The Drymonas waterfalls in Northern Evia, between the villages of Drymonas and Kerasia, are a place of exceptional beauty. The waterfalls are at an elevation of 620 meters, 4 km from the Monastery of Osios David. The Sipias River creates a captivating spectacle as it scatters its water over the cascades. The water crashes down with a roar and force from a height of 15 meters into a crystalline lake encircled by rocks and forest.
