Archontiko Krana, a warm retreat in Aspraggeloi, Zagori, is a distinctive example of traditional architecture where stone and wood meet hospitality and modern comfort. Built on the site of an old mansion that was destroyed during World War II, today's guesthouse preserves as a living piece of its history the traditional wooden front door of the old mansion, which dates to 1864.
The architecture of Archontiko Krana is inspired by the tradition of the Zagori villages and the natural landscape. The building's exterior is made from hand-hewn local stone, while the distinctive arches on the first floor and the stone roof of black slate complete the picture of an authentic Zagori mansion.
Inside the hotel, ornate ceilings, chandeliers and blown-glass light fixtures create an atmosphere with a singular character. The stone floor is paired with handmade rugs and flokati, while the decor strikes a balance between traditional elements and more contemporary touches. The same philosophy continues in the rooms. Each has its own identity and color palette, with the wooden ceilings, fabrics and furnishings creating a different mood. The room names are also of particular interest, not drawn from mythological figures, but from the names of the village's grandmothers, maintaining a more personal bond with local history.
Among the accommodation options are the double rooms with a fireplace, three rooms on the second floor that combine the warmth of wood with romantic details and mountain views. Alkmini stands out for its red accents, Amfitriti moves in soft green hues inspired by traditional Zagori houses, while Galatea adopts shades of purple and blue. The rooms feature a double bed and have been designed for moments of relaxation by the fire.
The triple rooms, such as Afroditi and Meropi, are located on the first floor and feature one double and one single bed, and are characterized by vibrant color combinations and panoramic views. For those seeking greater independence, the independent double rooms are on the front side of the mansion, have their own entrance and a courtyard-terrace, and are particularly suitable for couples with children. Kleio, Euterpe and Antiope each have a different aesthetic, from red and green hues to more romantic beige and brown tones.
There are also double rooms with views, where the colors on the walls and the wooden ceilings frame the views of the natural landscape and the picturesque settlement. All rooms have comfortable beds, either with traditional metal or fabric headboards, while available amenities include among others free Wi-Fi, room service, TV, satellite channels, daily housekeeping, central heating, shower, toiletries, hairdryer, fridge and iron with ironing board.
