Very close to the region of Attica, it is the second-largest island in Greece by area and the third in the eastern Mediterranean. It is, however, a somewhat «mainland» island, since two bridges - the modern cable-stayed and the older retractable - connect it with the Greek mainland.It boasts wonderful beaches, dense pine forests- especially in the northern part-pleasant climate, famous monuments, many thermal springs and great food. For this reason it is a popular and nearby destination for Athenians.
