Panta Vrechei: A refreshing walk through the magical gorge of Evrytania

The Panta Vrechei Gorge is a natural wonder of Evrytania. The sight of water falling from high above like a light drizzle is unique.

While in summer we may seek sandy beaches and crystal-blue seas for our swims, there are many cool oases and breathtaking landscapes in mountain destinations across Greece that blend gorgeous nature with water and are ideal for alternative summer getaways.

If you have been to Karpenisi, chances are you have heard of the famous «Panta Vrechei». This gorge is one of the most impressive areas of Evrytania and one of the most beautiful natural attractions in Greece.

Between the mountains of Kaliakouda and Platanaki, at the narrowest point of the Krikellopotamos, lies a fairytale place where it... «always rains» and the waterfalls never stop flowing. It is a striking landscape unlike anything you will easily encounter. The safest time to cross the Panta Vrechei Gorge is of course summer (from June to the end of September), with the help of experienced guides. You will walk inside the river, swim in the mountain waters, and enjoy nature at its best.

Getting there takes real effort, but the unique spectacle will reward you. Reaching the point where the famous waterfalls are, you will be impressed by natures wonder. Thewaters that come from Mount Kaliakouda fall from the top of the canyon walls, creating a gorgeous water curtain about 80 meters high, like an endless fine rain! In front of them, small natural pools with cool, crystalline waters tempt you to dive in and become one with nature.

Along the waythere are many variations, and while at first you may be walking beside the river, there are many points where you will need to get into the water up to your waist. You will need closed, hiking-type shoes, as well as a waterproof backpack with a second pair of athletic shoes, swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, hat, snacks, and water.

How to get there

The Panta Vrechei Gorge is located south of the town of Karpenisi, between the villages of Roska and Doliana.Access to the gorge is from various points and requires a vehicle suitable for dirt roads, with which you will reach up to a point. Whichever route you follow, the scenery will reward you.
