It is a family-run business since 1972 that passed to the second generation in the 1990s. Its name derived from the palace of a courtesan, Xanthippi. In fact, the palace is just a few meters from the establishment. Beyond the view, the elegant dining hall and the venue’s décor impress, managing to marry tradition with contemporary touches. The restaurant area is discreetly separated from the café by an imposing fireplace.
The flavors of Xanthippi
Owner Makis Topalidis grew up in the establishment, the oldest food establishment still in operation in Xanthi. His favorite dish was the famous tzigerosarmas, an Easter specialty. Because of this love, his parents decided to put it on the restaurant’s menu, and thus it became established in locals’ minds from a festive dish to an everyday one. Using ingredients from local producers, the restaurant’s recipes are authentic traditional Thracian, combined with modern Mediterranean culinary trends. The variety of salads and appetizers is extensive, as is that of meats. The menu ranges from beef rib-eye steak to lamb shank with eggplant purée, their own take on Istanbul-style Hünkâr beğendi.
The experience is completed by the well-curated wine list, with an emphasis on the local vineyard. Evenings with live music are a beloved fixture for locals and visitors from Greece and abroad.
