Chalkida is the capital of Evia. It is famed for the old (sliding) Negroponte bridge, in the Euripus Strait. From here you can observe the famous tidal phenomenon of Euripus, the frequent reversal of the sea current, which depends entirely on the phases of the moon!To reach Chalkida you will cross its impressive cable-stayed bridge! Explore the center of the Kastro quarter and admire its Byzantine monuments or stroll along the northern side of the pedestrianized waterfront! This is the most cosmopolitan spot in the city, with countless cafés, restaurants and impressive neoclassical buildings!
