Throughout Holy Week the city honors tradition with devout services. By Holy Thursday residents have procured the lamb and plan the setup of the Lakkos, while also dyeing the Easter eggs. On Good Friday the Epitaphios processions take place, all meeting together in the central square. On the night of the Resurrection the atmosphere becomes magical, as the bells ring joyfully and the streets fill with light.

The famed custom of the «Lakkos»

Easter Sunday is the citys greatest celebration, as the custom of the «Lakkos» is revived with songs and dances. The lakkos is the spot where the Easter feast is set up. From early on residents wake to light the fire with the Resurrection candle on the vine cuttings they gathered in the days before. From daybreak, spits with lamb, kokoretsi and kontosouvli are set up in every yard.
