Greece is the world's top country at the Conde Nast Traveller 2026 awards

Conde Nast Traveller readers voted Greece the best country in the world for 2026.

The British travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller has published its lists for the Readers' Choice Awards 2026, which highlight the year's best travel choices - from destinations to hotels, airlines, cruises, and tour operators around the world - based on its readers' votes.

Travelers voted, among other categories, for their favorite countries for travel. And Greece is at the top! See how the list took shape and what Conde Nast Traveller says about Greece.

Greece: The best country in the world for 2026

According to the readers of the British Conde Nast Traveller, Greece, with a score of 98,14, is the best country in the world for 2026. «It's official: our love affair with Greece has reached its peak», the magazine notes on its website.

As Conde Nast Traveller notes, Greece's allure was stronger than ever this year. «Maybe it's... the Odyssey effect, but this year Greece's call was heard louder than ever - not so much for mythical encounters with Circe and the Cyclops as for its culture that travels through the centuries and for the endless list of experiences it offers – from Santorini's spellbinding sunsets to Athens' new National Museum of Underwater Antiquities».

The magazine singles out Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete, as well as islands such as Paros, Hydra, Ios, and Tinos. At the same time, it describes Athens as one of Europe's «unexpectedly coolest capitals», thanks to its pioneering restaurants, avant-garde galleries, and modern hotels.

It's also worth noting that at this year's awards Greece was named the second-best gastronomic destination worldwide, as well as the 4th most hospitable country in Europe. In addition, Hydra was named the best island in Europe for 2026.
