A Greek island of wild beauty ranks among Europes most promising tourist destinations.
The German travel outlet Reisereporter published a list of the most promising and "secret" destinations in Europe for the coming years. Among them is an island in the southeastern Aegean that stands out for its authentic identity and distinctive natural landscape. We are talking about Karpathos.
The second-largest island of the Dodecanese, between Rhodes and Crete, is a distinctive destination for those seeking authentic experiences away from the crowds of the famous islands. As ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ reports, the article on the popular travel website emphasizes that Karpathos is considered a destination beyond the ordinary for the wider international audience.
Karpathos impresses with its picturesque villages, hiking trails and secluded beaches with crystal-clear waters, while at the same time offering an authentic experience of Greek hospitality and gastronomy. Special mention is made of the traditional village of Olympos, where life moves at a gentler pace compared to other popular tourist centers, keeping the local traditions and the cultural heritage of Karpathos alive.
The Reisereporter list also includes other lesser-known yet highly appealing European destinations, from France, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Wales, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This international recognition for Karpathos is part of the efforts of the Municipality to promote the comparative advantages of the destination in the German market. Moreover, during a scheduled meeting at the ITB 2026 exhibition with a travel editor from the outlet, the intention was expressed for further familiarization and showcasing of the destination ahead of the direct flights from Germany to Karpathos that will start next summer.
More specifically the airline Eurowings will introduce a new direct route from Düsseldorf to Karpathos, further strengthening the presence of the destination in the German travel market. The positive result came with the contribution of ΕΟΤ and after discussions between the Municipality and the airline.
