The European city that was named best destination for solo travellers

An unexpected European city managed to win first place in the heart of solo travellers at this years Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Sometimes the best journeys are the ones where we follow exclusively our own plan. Solo trips give us the freedom to choose what we want to do and not ask anyone. While you can travel alone almost anywhere and have a wonderful time, some destinations are more welcoming for solo travellers.

For yet another year, Tripadvisor has published its lists of the best destinations worldwide, based on the preferences of travellers on the platform. The Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best award is given to those who receive a large number of highly positive reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period.

A new category was added to this year’s awards: the best destinations in the world for solo travellers. At the top of this list is a surprising European city, while a Greek destination appears in 25th place.

Dublin best destination for solo travellers

Dublin is the best destination worldwide for those travelling alone, according to Tripadvisor’s awards for 2026. The capital of Ireland has much to offer, but its greatest advantage is how easy it is for travellers to explore it on foot. This seems to have played a decisive role in its top spot.

According to Tripadvisor, Dublin is a city with a friendly atmosphere. Its compact size, combined with good transport connections, makes it ideal for exploring at your own pace. At the same time, there are many options for sights, from noteworthy museums to pubs where meeting the locals comes almost effortlessly. Dublin has activities for every taste that are worth discovering.

In second place on the list is Berlin, a city famed both for its nightlife and its rich history. London took third thanks to the vast number of experiences it offers and the ease of getting around. It is worth noting that in 25th place on the list there is also a Greek destination: Piraeus!
