Passing through the «Baros Pass», at 1.900 meters, with a little imagination you will truly feel like you are flying through the clouds.
From the turquoise seas to our alpine landscapes, Greece is a land blessed with so many beauties that it takes a lifetime to explore all its corners.
For lovers of scenic drives, however, there is one place that should top their list. It is the Baros Pass in the Pindos, which connects the Thessalian with the Epirote part of the range.
Baros Pass: An impressive route
The road links Anthousa and Chaliki (Thessaly) with Kalarrytes and Matsouki (Epirus), a route that in places reaches the dizzying altitude of 1.900 meters, while offering privileged viewpoints towards the peaks Peristeri and Kakarditsa at 2.294 and 2.429 meters respectively.
It long existed as a path and was used by the region’s muleteers and shepherds, either to transport people and goods to the hard-to-reach villages, or to graze their livestock. In 2014, however, it was fully paved, transforming it into a tourist point of interest.
Passing through the so-called «Baros Col», with a little imagination you will truly feel as if you are flying in the clouds. The road coils like a snake through gorges, coniferous forests and sheer slopes. The view is unique and every turn holds a new surprise in the rock formations and in the ravines carved by time and the elements.
