These are the most spectacular «twin» beaches of Greece

These «twin» Greek beaches evoke exotic destinations and captivate with their beauty.

Enchanting shores separated by a strip of land, golden sand and waters in every shade of blue. These are not beaches of the Caribbean, but «twin» beaches you can find on the Greek islands as well as on mainland Greece.

One stretch of sand, two beaches that form an exotic picture. From the Ionian Islands to the Peloponnese and the Dodecanese, we’ve singled out the most impressive twin or double beaches in Greece and present them to you. Which ones have you visited so far?

At the southern tip of the Laconian peninsula, theElafonisos, an island of just 19 sq. km, 500 meters from the opposite shore (Pounta), is a place straight out of a dream. Here lies one of the most exotic corners of our country, Simos beach, which ranks among the loveliest in the Mediterranean. Between two small peninsulas (Frangos and Sarakiniko), with views toward Kythira, this famous beach captivates every visitor with its turquoise waters, golden sand, towering dunes and rare cedar forest. Simos is about 4,5 kilometers from the town of Elafonisos and access is by car on a paved road.

Porto Timoni, Corfu

Porto Timoni is a beautiful beach below the village of Afionas, in the northwestern part of Corfu. Although it’s no longer a secret, the beach remains relatively undiscovered, as it is not accessible by car. Essentially, it’s two different beaches separated by a narrow strip of land. The smaller is called Limni and the larger Porto Timoni. The waters are crystal clear and the beaches are covered with fine, white pebbles. To get there, you’ll need to leave your car in Afionas and walk for 20-25 minutes along a path through greenery with wonderful views. The beach is not organized, so make sure you bring the essentials.

Kolona, Kythnos

Kolona is the most famous beach of Kythnos and one of the loveliest in the Cyclades. The ribbon of sand that links Kythnos’s coast with the rocky islet of Agios Loukas creates two gorgeous, sheltered beaches on either side. Kolona lies in the northwestern part of the island and, after Apokrousi, access is via a relatively rough dirt road. It is not organized, so it’s best to arrive with the appropriate gear.

Prasonisi, Rhodes

If you want to see the most impressive landscape on Rhodes and swim at a stunning «double» beach, your destination lies at the island’s southernmost tip (90 km. from the city of Rhodes) and is called Prasonisi. It’s a marvel of nature, a geological formation that looks like a small island. Imagine a huge, broad strip of sand that, depending on low or high tide, is cut off from or joins the island. This strip of sand is the famous beach of Prasonisi, a meeting point for windsurfers and kite surfers from all over the world. Blue-green waters, snow-white sand and colorful boards riding the waves offer a unique spectacle to visitors.

Kounoupes, Astypalea

The uninhabited islets of Kounoupes and Koutsomitis are the «exotic zone» of Astypalea. Kounoupes island features a very beautiful double beach. A narrow strip of land splits the sea in two and creates two shores with pebbles and crystal-clear, turquoise waters. Access is only by private boat or by caique from Pera Gialos.
