Two and a half hours from Athens, Agoriani or Eptalofos is an ideal destination for those who want to unwind in a lush green setting and discover the less cosmopolitan side of Mount Parnassos.
Parnassos is not just Arachova. On the slopes of the mountain, beautiful villages, nestled in the alpine landscape, offer visitors warm hospitality and a connection with nature and tradition. One of the most distinctive villages of Parnassos is Agoriani (or Eptalofos, as it is now the official name).
Although it lies just 25 km. from Arachova, this picturesque, fir-clad village has its own loyal following among those seeking relaxation, the serenity of nature and clean mountain air. Agoriani is about 180 km. from Athens and administratively belongs to the prefecture of Phocis and the Municipality of Delphi.
Agoriani: The quiet force of Parnassos
Built at an elevation of 900 m. in the northwestern part of Parnassos, on seven small hills (hence the modern name Eptalofos), Agoriani is a wonderful mountain settlement nestled in a dense fir forest, amid cool running waters. Agoriani is an ideal destination for all seasons, yet it becomes even more beautiful and fairytale in winter, when it is dressed in white and gives you the feeling that you are in an Alpine village.
The square of Agoriani with its famous fountains and centuries-old plane trees is the most bustling place in the village. Here you can enjoy your coffee or meal with views of the forested slopes of Parnassos and the plain of Lilaia. Agoriani also has a Folklore Museum, where you can learn more about life in the village from the early 20th century. Do not miss going up to the hill of the church of Agia Paraskevi which offers the best panoramic view of the village.
From the village square a cobbled path leads to the beautiful Agoriani Waterfall - the village trademark - 20 meters high. Nature lovers can hike along trails, the most famous being the E4 that links Agoriani with Delphi in 6 hours and explore the renowned Corycian Cave or Cave of Pan. You can also ski and snowboard at the Parnassos Ski Center which is just 20 km. from Agoriani.
