«Flavors, Tradition and Culture in Koroni: Emblematic Community of the Mediterranean Diet».
The Koroni Professionals' Association announces a major initiative for Intangible Cultural Heritage, titled: «Flavors, Tradition and Culture in Koroni: Emblematic Community of the Mediterranean Diet», which will take place from 8 to 16 November 2026.
2026 is a milestone year, as 16 November is celebrated for the first time as World Mediterranean Diet Day, following its designation by UNESCO. At the same time, Koroni holds a central role, having already hosted the 16th Intergovernmental Meeting of the UNESCO Emblematic Communities of the Mediterranean Diet and bearing the title of Ambassador for the year 2026.
The Action's goals are to document and highlight the distinctive local traditions, production practices, and high nutritional value agricultural products that make Koroni an Emblematic Community, as well as to organize open events that showcase the spirit of social cohesion, collectivity, and hospitality that define the Mediterranean Diet.
The Action is supported by multidimensional scientific coverage thanks to the participation of the Departments of: Dietetics and Nutrition Science, Food Science and Technology, and Agriculture of the University of the Peloponnese.
The Action is implemented under the auspices and with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Region of Peloponnese ,the Municipality of Pylos – Nestor and the Chamber of Messinia. Institutions and collectives, as well as local producers and professionals, will also take an active part in the Action, further strengthening the initiative's collective character and cohesion.
