Back in 2020, the Lorem Ipsum team decided to stage the play «The Lathe». Three performances later theaters shut their doors due to a global pandemic. After 6 years of waiting, amid bombings -by nuclear powers- a few kilometers from our country and with oil prices and the cost of living off the charts we decided it was finally time to invest time and money and return with a new production! What could go wrong this time?
The «Sixteen» is a dark comedy set in a singular historical period of Greece. So singular it feels timeless. Through everyday, seemingly trivial conversations a climate of fear, suspicion, and social suffocation gradually unfolds. A man trying to «do everything right» wrestles with his need for order, safety, and normality, given over to his fears, as the world around him is violently upended.
It’s a play that speaks with humor and subtle irony about family in times of social crisis, about the fear hidden in the details of everyday life, and about the human need to hold on to something steady - even for «one more day». Giannis Kentrotas (The Lathe, Yoshiru Yamaguchi, Alaska, Pigalle, The Lemon Tree) returns to the director’s chair with his LOREM IPSUM team, with a contemporary piece in the black box of theater 104.
