A new cultural space that keeps alive the history, tradition, and everyday life of Pentalofos.
Pentalofos, Voio, Kozani, one of the region's most important traditional settlements, is gaining a new space dedicated to tradition and its cultural heritage. The Folklore Museum «The Koulia» invites residents and visitors on a journey through time and into the stone-building tradition, through objects and artifacts of the daily life of earlier generations.
Built at an altitude of 1,060 meters, Pentalofos is a place inextricably linked with the master builders' tradition of the Zoumbaniotes, (in earlier times Pentalofos was called Zoumbani). The area's abundant stone and the distinctive conditions of life gave residents the chance to turn necessity into creation and to develop a unique craftsmanship, with stone taking shape as houses, churches, schools, bridges and fountains that still characterize the village's architecture today.
In this distinctive architectural landscape, the museum is housed in a characteristic 18th-century Koulia, the only house of this type preserved in Pentalofos. The building was granted to the Pentalofos Cultural Association in 1996 and, after years of work and volunteer contributions, was transformed into the village's first permanent exhibition space dedicated to folklore.
Across the Koulia's two floors, visitors encounter objects from another era, such as furniture, tools, textiles, coins and traditional costumes, that shed light on the everyday life and habits of the people of Pentalofos. With the operation of the Folklore Museum, an important piece of the village's history gains a permanent space for expression and promotion, keeping alive the memory of the place and its people.
