ΚΟΙΝΩΝΩ Festival: 5 days of contemporary creativity, encounters and activities on Tinos

Tο ΚΟΙΝΩΝΩ — The Tinos Gathering presents in Tinos REBUILT FOR FLIGHT, a five-day program dedicated to the island's dovecotes and the landscape shaped around them.

In its tenth year on Tinos, the organization develops a network of actions/works at different points across the island, bringing contemporary art, music, performances, installations, screenings, workshops, tours, research, and public discussions into dialogue. Artists, researchers, architects, residents, dovecote owners, farmers, and local bodies gather around a shared question “How can a landscape that was shaped through specific relationships and functions acquire new forms of care and activation today?”.

The theme REBUILT FOR FLIGHT starts from a literal condition: The dovecote is an architecture made for flight. Designed for the entry, stay, and exit of pigeons, it was at the same time part of a broader agricultural and social system, linked to cultivation, fertilization, production, and everyday life. Dovecotes weren't created as monuments; they were active infrastructures of a productive landscape.

Today, many have lost their original function. REBUILT FOR FLIGHT doesn't seek a return to an idealized past, but examines how these structures can be read, documented, cared for, and reactivated in the present. For five days, the same question is approached through different practices and temporalities: Tours of the dovecotes and the agricultural landscape, exhibitions and archival material, workshops, musical and sound performances, installations, screenings, symposia, and open meetings.
