We were in the Peloponnese for the culmination of AdventureWEEK Peloponnese 2026, organized by the Region of Peloponnese and Visit Peloponnese, in collaboration with the Adventure Travel Trade Association and with the support of the Greek National Tourism Organization.

With a strong international presence, strategic partnerships and a significant footprint of international outreach, the AdventureWEEK Peloponnese 2026, the largest adventure tourism initiative ever hosted in Greece, concluded.

The event took place from 4 to 13 May 2026 and comprehensively showcased the natural wealth, culture, gastronomy, and authentic experiences of the Peloponnese, linking the region’s tourism offering with the modern demands of the international travel market for sustainable and high-quality destinations.

The curtain fell on AdventureWEEK Peloponnese 2026 with the Marketplace Event, which was the pinnacle of the event, sealing a multi-day initiative of international scope that places the Peloponnese on the global map of adventure tourism.

Through targeted business meetings, 19 buyers and 12 leading media representatives from key markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland and Canada, connected with tourism enterprises of the Peloponnese, shaping meaningful prospects for partnerships, new travel flows and strengthening the international outreach of the local tourism offering.

AdventureWEEK Peloponnese 2026 was implemented by the Region of Peloponnese and Visit Peloponnese, in collaboration with the Adventure Travel Trade Association, the leading international organization for adventure and experience tourism, with the support of the Greek National Tourism Organization.

The Secretary General of GNTO, Andreas Fiorentinos, noted that through actions like AdventureWEEK the aim is to strengthen Greece’s international image as a destination that can operate for 10 and 12 months a year. As he emphasized, «a prerequisite for achieving this goal is the active participation and collaboration of the local community and tourism professionals, so that the right conditions are created to attract visitors throughout the year».

At the same time, he underlined that GNTO’s strategic planning focuses on further enriching the tourism offering, increasing arrivals and dispersing tourism activity to more destinations and throughout the year.

In this context, he stated that the Peloponnese «is at the forefront of this effort», and pointed out that «the momentum of “slow tourism” responds to contemporary trends and can add substantial added value to the Greek tourism offering, strengthening its sustainability and differentiation».

The Regional Governor of the Peloponnese, Dimitris Ptochos, stated: «In recent months a very significant effort is being made by the Peloponnese Region to reintroduce itself to the whole world and to create a tourism product that is attractive to everyone.

A key aim is the formation of a sustainable development model and a new tourism ecosystem where nature, gastronomy and culture coexist. The Peloponnese has an exceptionally rich cultural reserve which, together with local communities, can be transformed into authentic and experiential experiences for the visitor.

The realization of such a vision presupposes strong and strategic partnerships. In this context falls the collaboration with ATTA and GNTO, with the aim of establishing and strengthening such alliances in practice.

The hosting of AdventureWEEK, taking place for the first time in Greece, functions as a dynamic platform for networking and exchanging experiences. A platform through which we can not only tell the story of our place, but also actively participate in shaping it.»

The Mayor of Sparta, Michalis Vakalopoulos, underlined that participation in AdventureWEEK offers the opportunity for a meaningful showcasing of the area’s tourism product. As he stressed, the tourism product of Laconia cannot be treated as detached from the overall tourism product of the Peloponnese, but must be integrated into a unified framework of cooperation and joint effort, with the goal of highlighting the place and extending visitors’ length of stay.

At the same time, he noted that the experiential tourism offered by AdventureWEEK constitutes a pioneering experience, in which everyone is invited to participate actively, expressing the view that similar initiatives will continue in the future with new parameters, new destinations and new challenges.

The representative of the Adventure Travel Trade Association, Maureen Seelley, referred to the potential the region shows for the development of adventure tourism, expressing her enthusiasm for the natural landscape and the trails of the Peloponnese, which, as she noted, offer high-quality experiences for the visitor.

At the same time, she underlined the destination’s authenticity and the level of local hospitality, elements that decisively enhance the attractiveness of the area in the international tourism environment.

The Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism of the Peloponnese, Thanos Micheloggonas, added that AdventureWEEK is part of the new strategy aiming to position the Peloponnese on the global map of alternative tourism, the starting point of which was the «Peloponnese Trails» initiative, a unified network of over 2,000 kilometers that connects mountain ranges, villages, natural landscapes and cultural points of interest across the Peloponnese.

We tasted the local flavors in the villages of the region, felt creative at the Mosaic Art Greece mosaic workshop and enjoyed the hospitality of the locals.
