The most popular choices for May Day getaways, according to data from Booking.com.
This year, May Day falls on a Friday and the resulting three day weekend is an ideal opportunity for short, refreshing getaways. Popular Greek destinations maintain high levels of demand, even recording an increase, with neighboring countries following suit.
As reported by ANA-MPA, recent data from Booking.com, a member of Booking Holdings Inc, indicate a 19% rise in overall searches by Greek travelers for stays (within and outside Greece) for the period 30 April to 3 May 2026, compared to the corresponding period last year.
Greek destinations
Athens and Thessaloniki remain steady choices, posting increases of 5% and 14% respectively. More "traditional" spring getaway destinations show impressive growth, such as Nafplio (+84%) and Volos (+53%).
There is particularly heightened activity in searches for city breaks in less crowded destinations, with Nafpaktos standing out (+137%) and Monemvasia (+88%) and Corfu (+59%) following, confirming the shift of travelers toward destinations closely linked to authentic local experiences. Kalamata is also on the rise (+46%), while Ioannina remains consistently popular (+5%).
Abroad
Beyond domestic destinations, Rome (+7%), Istanbul (+19%) and London (+16%) rank among the most popular choices that saw an increase. Conversely, there is a slight dip in interest for destinations such as Budapest (-18%) and Vienna (-19%), suggesting a possible shift in preferences toward other cities or their association with more winter escapes.
