On Matchday 6 of the League Phase of the Europa League PAOK will play against Ludogorets on December 11. See what the trip will cost if you decide to head to Razgrad in Bulgaria.
The city of Razgrad, in northeastern Bulgaria, is not widely known, yet it is a destination with deep culture and history. The small city is built in a region influenced by Thrace and Roman civilization, blending the serenity of the countryside with the vibrancy of the residents and their passion for football. On Thursday 11 December PAOK will travel to Razgrad to face Ludogorets for Matchday 6 of the League Phase of the Europa League, at Huvepharma Arena.
Both the journey itself and the stay in the city are distinctive experiences. In the city at the heart of the Balkans you will trace the paths of Roman civilization, as Razgrad was built atop the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Abritus on the banks of the Beli Lom River. Below you will find all the ways and costs to get there, as well as the cost of accommodation.
How to get there
In Razgrad there is no airport nearby, as the nearest is in the city of Varna, the Bulgarian summer resort that is about 120 km away. However, there are no direct flights from Greece to Varna Airport.
From Athens you can fly to Sofia with return fares from 210 euros and then rent a car and drive for about 4,5 hours (330 km). Alternatively you can travel by car from Athens to Razgrad in about 12,5 hours (1.130 km). The one-way cost by car for fuel comes to around 150 euros (depending on the fuel consumption of the vehicle), 36,80 euros for tolls and about 6,5 euros for the vignette you will pay at the border to enter Bulgaria.
If you decide to take a road trip from Thessaloniki to Razgrad, you will need about 7,5 hours to get there. The one-way cost to Razgrad is about 85 euros for fuel, 4,1 euros for tolls and 6,5 euros for the vignette.
Accommodation
Huvepharma Arena is just 1,5 km from the city center. The ideal area to stay is the center, as you can reach the stadium on foot while also being close to all the attractions and restaurants. Accommodation costs range from 35 to 50 euros for a double room per night.
Getting around and food
For getting around the city you may not even need a taxi, as everything is very close on foot. The city has a relatively low cost of living, so your meals will be at low prices. For street food options you will spend 4-8 euros and at a restaurant you may pay around 10-20 euros per person per meal.
