It lies about 2.5 hours from Athens and 3.5 from Thessaloniki, and for many years was a hidden secret on the slopes of Oiti. Today, this picturesque village in Phthiotis is one of the most popular getaways for couples and families year-round.

The famous little park of Pavliani
In recent years its popularity has soared thanks to social media. Everyone wants to be there and live this experience, to play and be photographed on the throne - a replica from the series Game of Thrones. On the slopes of Oiti and at the Asopos Springs, youll see large signs welcoming you to the park, inviting you to explore it.
A place unlike any other in Greece, it was created by the villagers with respect for the area. With care and love, they have voluntarily shaped a fun route, featuring distinctive activities and humorous signs. You can swing over the river’s running waters, play bowling, football and volleyball, cross the bridge that plays music, and laugh your heart out.
If youre in the mood for hiking, climb to the summit where youll also find the famous throne. The view from up there will impress you, with your gaze reaching as far as the Maliakos Gulf. The hiking trail is waymarked on the trees and will take you about three to four hours depending on your stops. If you simply want to savor nature, grab your coffee and sit on one of the makeshift benches. For the more daring, opposite the main entrance theres another hiking route that warns visitors it is for the initiated.
Ano Pavliani
Continuing from the park youll reach Ano Pavliani, the main part of the village. Amid traditional stone-built houses with wooden doors, youll find guesthouses, little eateries, and the Church of Agios Athanasios with a stone-built bell tower dating from 1868.
Humor is present even on the house walls, painted with playful signs. Here even the bins are colorful and imaginative. The old primary school on the main square houses the Oiti Information Center of the Management Authority of Oiti National Park. There youll learn more about the mountains flora and fauna, as well as the areas history.
Outdoor activities
The areas enchanting landscapes and nature wont leave you unmoved. If youd like a short outing beyond the village, head to Oiti National Park. Another interesting activity is the trail from the village of Pyra, 15 kilometers from Pavliani, to the site of the Sanctuary of Heracles on Oitis Katavothra plateau. Along the way youll come across springs and spots to rest. Another favorite exploration, especially in summer, is the Kremasis Waterfall (Stromi), perfect for refreshing dips.
Local flavors
Pavliani is famed for its welcoming tavernas and spots serving excellent local food. At Litsas taverna youll enjoy traditional cheese bread and meats, such as country-style sausage, beef liver, and pork belly. Another option is Taverna Stou Proedrou on the village square, for meze like sausages with eggs and lamb chops.
