On Kimolos you will take a dip at one of the most beautiful beaches in the Cyclades. Crystal-clear turquoise waters, chalk-white coarse sand and sea caves create a heavenly setting.
TheKimolos, Milos’s “little sister”, is a distinctive island, known for its tranquility and simplicity. “My Kimolos, my paradise!”, locals often say, and when you find yourself on the island you’ll understand exactly what they mean. Chorio with its Cycladic charm, the medieval castle with its spellbinding views, and the beaches with their gorgeous waters compose the island’s captivating picture.
When you visit Kimolos, a dip at Prassa is a must. Many consider this beach the island’s finest. Prassa lies in the northeastern part of Kimolos, within Pigadi bay, about 6 km from the port.
Snow-white, coarse sand, fabulous turquoise waters, and sea caves to explore set the scene for paradise. The beach is also known as “White Kimolia” thanks to the distinctive white sand that comes from the island’s chalky rock.
Most of the beach is organized, and there is also a beach bar. Still, there’s plenty of room for those who want to lay out their towel, as well as some tamarisk trees for natural shade. At the edge of Pigadi bay, on the cape of Agios Georgios, the Mediterranean monk seal Monachus monachus finds refuge in sea caves, while directly opposite the beach lies the islet of Prasonisi.
The beach with "the clearest waters in the world"
Kimolos’s most beautiful beach even holds a global distinction. In a study conducted by the American travel agencyFlorida Panhandlein late 2023,Prassa stood out as the beach with the clearest waters in the world!
To identify the beaches with the clearest waters in the world, the travel agency created an initial list of 50 beaches from around the globe that ranked highest on relevant travel review websites. It then calculated each beach’s score based on the percentage of reviews that mention “clear waters”. In total, the team analyzed more than 2.4 million reviews to find its winners, with Prassa on Kimolos taking first place.
Prassa is not the only Greek beach that stood out, as the survey’s top 10 also features five more beaches on Greek islands: Gennadi on Rhodes, Agios Dimitrios beach on Alonnisos, Agia Anna on Amorgos, Bataria beach in Kassiopi on Corfu and Mikros Gialos on Lefkada.
“Stretching for 13.676 kilometers, the Greek coastline is the largest in the Mediterranean basin, a sea famed for its crystal-clear waters and rich blue hue,” the Florida Panhandle team wrote on its website. “It’s no surprise, then, that the majority of the world’s top beaches for clear waters are in Greece, with Prassa beach on the island of Kimolos coming first, for which 43,56% of publicly available traveler reviews describe it as beach with clear waters.”
