Εβίβα, Αλμυρίκι, Κάβος and Osteria Greca create a top tier gastronomic haven just one hundred kilometers from Athens.
We don’t often find, within a short provincial radius, a cluster of restaurants that are making culinary history and speaking straight to our hearts with their recipes. What’s happening in the prefecture of Corinthia is a gastronomic triumph, worth every kilometer and every repeat visit. Start the engine and off we go.
Eviva, for serious carnivores
In Vochaiko, two brothers, Giorgos and Dimitris Mavronasios, are spinning a powerful, protein-driven success story. They took the right foundations from their family and, when it was their turn, transformed the noteworthy family taverna into a modern temple of meat. Ingredients are sourced selectively from the best domestic and international farms and handled by the brothers themselves. The key difference is that the meats usually arrive whole, so they can then use each cut properly and elevate it over open flames with masterful grilling.
Their menu has it all, from select breeds, Greek and international, and famous cuts to delicacies like frigadelia, gardoubakia and chicken kontosouvli. However, their meaty signature focuses on mutton, which is aged in the proper fridges for at least forty days. One of the results is the incomparable chop. In this case the mutton is grilled to perfection, juicy and flavorful. You should also try the handmade mutton kavourmas served with a fried egg and the handmade sausage from dry-aged Black Angus. Almyriki, for original seafood dining
With panoramic views of the Saronic, Almyriki has been a destination for twelve years for those with high expectations in seafood. Chef-owner Kostas Babalikis mixes a repertoire of unexpected seafood dishes. One element of surprise he uses is the imaginative pairing of top-tier ingredients from land and sea.
Standout examples include al dente pasta with a well-cooked minced squid sauce, meticulously prepared sea bass with a refreshing fricassee, aromatic trahana with grilled squid, tasty beans with cured mackerel, sardines with eggplant, sausage with shrimp, and many more creative, distinctive plates. The Greek-accented flavors brim with imagination and technique, celebrate the products of small producers, and lift the sea’s bounty alongside an impressive wine list that’s a point of reference for Almyri beach. Kavos 1964, for a classic catch
This now-historic restaurant at the Isthmus of Corinth counts over half a century. In a quick flashback, Takis Vlassis and his wife Pagona transformed the old grain warehouse into an atmospheric, friendly, and flawless seaside taverna. Today their son Tasos continues the tradition, always with his tireless mother by his side and in the kitchen. Their dishes follow the whims of the fishermen and bring the aroma of the sea in a restrained way, without fancy additions.
Their recipes are simple yet hide a deep, addictive deliciousness. Like the stunning pasta with shellfish that has gone viral, drawing devoted foodies from everywhere to enjoy it, or the freshly marinated anchovy that is pure bite-sized pleasure. And beyond these, whatever fish you choose arrives expertly grilled over coals or pan-fried and is flavorfully complemented by freshly cut French fries, crisp wild greens, and a wonderfully fragrant Greek salad. Osteria Greca, for a Kefalonia – Corinth alliance
In Lalioti, Corinthia, a model gastronomic revival is taking place with wine and two great cuisines as its point of reference. Specifically, the Papargyriou Estate winery hosts, alongside the tanks and barrels, a chic restaurant with Kefalonian chef Giorgos Antonellos at the helm. With finesse, knowledge, confidence, and plenty of love, Giorgos blends the traditional recipes of his island with ingredients and authentic dishes of the Peloponnese, and the result is award-worthy.
To understand, just try the local wild boar meatballs embraced by Ionian pastitsado sauce, or the rooster with the local toutoumakia pasta. Special mention goes to the meat pie with wine sauce - if you find it, be sure to try it. Lalioti, Corinthia
