Beaches for endless swims on the paradise island of the Small Cyclades.
If you are seeking an utterly relaxing holiday on a serene little island with golden sands and crystal-clear waters, then the Donousa, east of Naxos, is your destination. Since Donousa is a small island (it covers just 13 square kilometers), you will be able to visit all of its enchanting beaches. Most beaches of Donousa are easily accessible from the main coastal road of the island, while some require a bit of hiking, which is well worth the effort.
Stavros
Stavros is the beach that welcomes visitors to the island, as it lies next to the port. With a long, golden sandy shore, crystal-clear waters, and natural shade from tamarisk trees, the beach is ideal for families with children. A bonus is its convenient location, right by anything you might need.
Kedros
Golden sand and sapphire-blue waters create a magical setting on this beach, which is also popular with nudists. In fact, Forbes included Kedros among the 8 best beaches in the world in 2018. Kedros lies in a small bay in the south of the island. From Donousa Chora, the beach is 15-20 minutes of easy walking or a five minute drive. The beach has a beach bar.
Livadi
For many, Livadi is the most beautiful beach on the island, with gorgeous turquoise waters and white sand. Here you will encounter nudists and campers. The beach sits in a sheltered bay below the settlement of Mersini and it will take you about 20 minutes to walk from there to the beach. Alternatively, you can come by boat from Stavros. There are tamarisk trees for natural shade, while on the left side of the beach are the picturesque "syrmata", places where locals keep their boats in winter. Following a footpath, you will reach the small and quiet Fykio beach.
Kalotaritissa
The main road of the island ends at the settlement of Kalotaritissa (about 20 minutes by car from Chora), with its three wonderful successive beaches (Sapounochoma, Mesa Ammos, Vlycho). The beaches have golden sand, a tranquil atmosphere, and views of the islet Skoulonisi.
