This trip can also be done in a single day (if you start early in the morning), but if you have the chance, a weekend will allow you to enjoy the experience more leisurely. Starting from Athens, the drive takes about three hours and offers several interesting stops.

Continuing towards the mountains, you will pass through Arachova, one of Greece’s most popular mountain destinations. As you ascend, you will see treasuries of the city-states, such as the impressive Treasury of the Athenians, and you will reach the Temple of Apollo, where the Pythia delivered her oracles. Don’t miss climbing up to the ancient theatre, from where the view over the valley of olive trees is spectacular.
Next, it is worth visiting the Archaeological Museum of Delphi. There you will see significant exhibits such as the Charioteer of Delphi, one of the best-preserved bronze statues of antiquity. The museum perfectly complements the site experience, adding depth to the understanding of Delphi’s significance. After your tour, you can pause in the village of Delphi for a meal with a view over the Amfissa olive grove. The local cuisine is simple yet flavorful, with an emphasis on traditional dishes.
Galaxidi: Maritime grandeur
From Delphi, Galaxidi is about 40 minutes away. The route descends towards the sea and changes character entirely: from mountain scenery to seaside. Galaxidi is one of the most beautiful small towns in Greece, with a strong seafaring past. The mansions, the cobbled alleys and the picturesque harbor create an atmosphere of calm and elegance.
Begin your stroll at the harbor, where you will see traditional caiques and sailing boats. From there, wander the town’s alleys, admiring the well-preserved mansions with their tiled roofs. Of particular interest is the Maritime and Historical Museum of Galaxidi, housed in an old mansion. There you will learn about the town’s maritime tradition and its significant contribution to Greece’s trade and history.
For those who love the sea, there are small beaches near Galaxidi, ideal for a quick swim. Alternatively, you can sit at a seaside cafe or taverna and enjoy fresh fish and seafood.
