Artzenta Cave: An impressive diving experience in a hidden «gem» of Athens

You dont need to go all the way to the Maldives to experience an impressive dive. Just a breath away from Athens, Ardzenta Cave hides a magical, almost cinematic underwater world you cant imagine until you dive in. And we experienced it thanks to HUAWEI and the WATCH Ultimate 2.

What you can’t see doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t exist. For example, it might not even cross your mind that just a few kilometers from the center of Athens there is an underwater world that looks like it’s straight out of a documentary.

And yet, Arzenta Cave is, for those who love diving, one of the must-visit spots for a dive. There you can experience a dive that blends mystery, adrenaline, and incredible natural beauty.

From the moment you dive in, you leave the city noise behind and enter a world filled with blue-tinged shadows, rocky passages, and that calm only the sea can offer. It’s the kind of experience that makes you wonder how many more «hidden gems» lie right beside us.

All you need is someone or something to nudge you to live it. A reason. And we had the best one. Testing the new HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate 2 in real conditions beneath the sea’s surface.

Just before the dive

Arsida, also known as Artsidas Island, Artzentas or Eleousa, was the little islet we were heading to for our dive. It’s an uninhabited island of about 800 stremmas, which «looks toward» the Attica coastline. It lies west of Anavyssos, opposite the 49th kilometer of Athens–Sounio Avenue, and administratively belongs to the Municipality of Saronikos.

Our drive to Palaia Fokaia, from where we’d take a boat to reach the islet, was simple, almost relaxing. A small road trip with a sea view, and before you know it you’re at the little harbor, where the «mission» begins.

For the dive we had with us the experienced instructors from School of Diving so we felt no extra stress. The briefing, the gear, the jokes with the crew before the dive, the whole ritual gets you in the mood. And as the boat slips away from the shore, you start to understand why seasoned divers speak of Arzenta Cave as something special.

The beauty of the site

The moment you hit the water, everything changes. The sea embraces you, your breathing settles, and every meter downward feels like a revelation. The cave entrance appears almost mystically. A natural passage calling you to explore it.

Inside, the light filters in a way you can’t describe, only live. Blue reflections, shadows, crystal-clear waters and rocky formations that look like works of art. To some, this particular spot even resembles a heart shape. Why not?

It’s an experience that’s not just about diving, but about the feeling of discovering something so spectacular so close to the city. And when you surface, you realize that right there, a few meters below everyday life, there’s another world waiting for you.

The favorite cave for those who love diving

It’s worth noting that Arzenta Cave isn’t just another diving spot in the Saronic. It has history, character, and personality. It took its name from the locals, who for years considered it a «hidden secret» of fishermen and seasoned divers. It lies a short distance from Palaia Fokaia, in a spot not easily visible from the surface, which is why many are unaware of its existence.

The dive depth usually ranges between 8 and 22 meters, ideal for beginners - like us -, but also for those who are certified. Visibility is often impressively good, especially on days with a calm sea, while the water temperature remains relatively stable most months.

What makes it special, however, is its very morphology. A natural opening leading to a spacious underwater chamber, with light entering from the cave’s mouth creating an almost silvery effect, hence the name «Arzenta». Around you, small schools of fish, marine formations, iridescent walls, and that otherworldly calm that only the seabed can offer.

It’s not extreme, it’s not scary. It’s more an exploration filled with awe. That’s why it’s a favorite spot for training dives, photoshoots, and underwater filming.
