Conde Nast Traveller included a destination in mainland Greece on its list of the worlds top destinations for 2026.
The leading travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller has published the annual Best Places to Go list with the 26 best trips in the world for 2026. A list that, as the magazine notes, speaks to travelers and daydreamers alike and reminds us that our planet can feel both tiny and unbelievably vast at the same time.
Classic destinations gaining fresh appeal, along with «hidden gems» stepping into the spotlight, historic cities and tropical paradises, shape the map of top destinations for 2026. This year, Conde Nast Traveller singled out and added a Greek destination to the list - and, no, it is not an island.
The Peloponnese among the top destinations for 2026
According to Conde Nast Traveller, the Peloponnese is making a dynamic entry onto the international travel map for 2026, offering travelers a blend of cinematic landscapes, nature, and history. The Peloponneses selection for this years list is linked to Christopher Nolans new film «The Odyssey». The Oscar winning director chose the southwestern coastline of Messinia for the shooting of the Hollywood blockbuster, where "the Homeric epics draw their roots from ancient history," as Conde Nast Traveller notes.
Costa Navarino, with sustainability at its core and home to four luxury resorts as well as a new lineup of restaurants led by Michelin-starred chefs, is an ideal base for exploring the filming locations. CNT notes that visitors to the area can follow in the footsteps of Odysseus by walking to the Cave of Nestor, where Matt Damon as Odysseus outwits the Cyclops, swim in the «realm of Poseidon» at Voidokilia Beach, photograph flamingos in the Gialova lagoon and wander through Methoni Castle and historic Pylos where the son of Odysseus sought wisdom from the Trojan War hero King Nestor.
Special mention is also made of the completion of the Peloponnese Trails network, with more than 1.700 kilometers of trails, which aspires to transform the Peloponnese into a model for hiking tourism. Along these routes, hikers can taste the famed olive oil of Messinia and visit UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Mystras.
