The new report by Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection reveals the safest cities in the world to travel to in 2026.
If safety is an important factor in planning your vacation, then it is worth checking the list below of the worlds safest cities to travel in 2026 published by the travel insurance company Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection. To create the ranking, the company surveyed more than 1,500 travelers and combined the survey results with safety indicators from Numbeo and The Economist, as well as city ratings from GeoSure Global. At the top of the list - for the second consecutive year - was a European capital that blends tranquility, a sense of security, and unique natural beauty.
Reykjavik: The safest city for travelers
The capital of Iceland - and the northernmost capital in the world - was named, for the second consecutive year, the safest city for travelers worldwide. Reykjavik is home to about half of Icelands population. Colorful houses, galleries, museums, and small bars create a friendly atmosphere, while everything is within easy reach. The city is an ideal base for excursions to Icelands enchanting locations - from glaciers to volcanoes and from waterfalls to geothermal springs.
According to data from GeoSure Global published in the Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection report, «there is not a single neighborhood in Reykjavik that is not considered extremely safe». However, travelers, as the report notes, should be mindful of volcanic activity in the area around the city.
The 15 safest cities for travel in 2026
In second place on the list was Copenhagen, for which the report notes that it is «more cosmopolitan than Reykjavik, but it always conveys a sense of warmth and comfort». Zurich took third place on the list, while Amsterdam and Honolulu round out the top five.
