The New York Times published a list of 52 places for travel in the new year, selecting destinations in every corner of the world that have something unique to offer travelers. This year’s New York Times picks include several "off-the-beaten-path" destinations, from Italy and France to India and Australia.
In 29th place on the list we find a part of Greece with special appeal. It is neither Athens nor a famous island. The only Greek destination on this year’s New York Times travel list is Delphi!
Delphi on the New York Times travel list for 2025
The New York Times write about Delphi: «Greece may not be a famed hiking destination, but that could soon change with the inauguration of the Pindus Trail (Pindus Trail), stretching over 600 kilometers. This 42-day journey across the Pindus mountain range, from the Albanian border to Delphi, offers a glimpse of a different Greece: one of snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, pristine lakes and picturesque villages».
«For decades, these once-vibrant mountain communities suffered from depopulation and economic decline. The "Pindus Trail" project aims to reverse this trend by promoting the area as a year-round alternative», the New York Times note, adding that much of the trail remains a work in progress, but the section that starts from Delphi should be ready for hiking by summer. «Begin with a visit to the most famous oracle of the ancient world and then hike the slopes of Parnassos toward the summit of Giona, passing through cedar forests, Byzantine monasteries and charming villages lost in time».

At the top of the New York Times list is Southwest England. «Jane Austen fans have a good reason to explore Southwest England this year: It is the 250th anniversary of her birth and celebrations abound», the NYT note about their choice.
In second and third place are the Galápagos Islands and New York City’s museums, respectively.
