Paxos-Antipaxos: The most beautiful beaches for unforgettable swims

In this corner of the Ionian Sea you'll dive into incredible waters.

Exotic beaches with turquoise waters, impressive sea caves, and villages with traditional Ionian architecture welcome visitors to Paxos, the «Benjamin of the Ionian Islands». Of course, if you travel to Paxos it's worth visiting Antipaxos too, the neighboring islet with paradise shores.

With lush nature and magical beaches as their calling card, Paxos and Antipaxos make a unique destination for summer relaxation in the Ionian. Below, we've picked some of the best beaches so you can choose your favorite.

Top beaches on Paxos

Erimitis

The most dramatic and wild beach on Paxos lies on the island's west side. Erimitis beach was formed in 2008, after a major landslide. It has fantastic waters, white pebbles, and imposing rocks. You can get there either by your own boat or on foot (near the settlement of Magazia you'll see signs for the beach). There are no facilities, so it's a good idea to bring the essentials. The walk to the beach is fairly long (wear athletic shoes), but the landscape, the views, and the gorgeous waters will reward you. Sunset here is a unique experience.

A beautiful pebbly beach with aquamarine waters set in a lush green landscape. It's near Longos, on the island's east, 7 km from Gaios. It doesn't have umbrellas and sunbeds, nor natural shade, so make sure you bring the essentials. Access to the beach is easy. After leaving your car on the main road, you'll walk for about five minutes along a small path through the vegetation.

If you love the combination of white stone, turquoise waters, and abundant greenery, then Orkos in the northeast, near Lakka, is one of the first beaches you should visit on Paxos. Here, olive and cypress trees reach the sea. A wooden sign marks the entrance to the path that leads to the beach.

One of Paxos's most secluded and impressive beaches, on its eastern side, accessible only by boat. With deep blue waters, coarse sand, and imposing cliffs behind it.

The heavenly beaches on Antipaxos

Voutoumi

Voutoumi on Antipaxos often features in lists by leading international travel magazines of the top beaches in all of Europe - and not without reason. The crystal-clear waters (so clear that boats seem to hover above the seabed), the white sand combined with pebbles, and the dense vegetation that slopes down to the sea create an utterly exotic scene. You'll arrive by boat from Paxos. The beach has sunbeds and a taverna.

Vrika

Equally enchanting is Vrika beach. Hidden at the back of a cove, this beach is surrounded by lush vegetation and has white sand and turquoise, crystal clear waters ideal for snorkeling. On the beach there are sunbeds, umbrellas, a beach bar, and a taverna. Access is by boat from Gaios. Between Vrika and Voutoumi there's another beach, Mesovrika.
