The Peloponnese beach where you'll swim over a sunken city

On this little-known beach in Argolis, you can take a dip... into history. A submerged ancient city lies just a short distance from the shore and at a depth of only two meters.

The prefecture of Argolis in the Peloponnese hides many "treasures" for those eager for exploration and new experiences. It's a place rich in history and full of interesting sights that remain unknown to many. Few people, for example, know that a stone's throw from Ancient Epidaurus, two hours from Athens, lies a sunken city. It is the ancient sunken city of Epidaurus.

If you love exploring, upon arriving in Ancient Epidaurus ask the locals where the spot with the ancient sunken city is (see the spot on the map). This sunken city lies a very short distance from the shore and at a depth of just 2 meters, at Kalymnios beach or Gliati.

Finds there range from building foundations to 12th-century Mycenaean tombs and amphorae. Archaeologists and research reports speak of a possible trading post in the area where today's sunken city and Old Epidaurus are located.

You can see these parts of the ancient city of Epidaurus even while swimming! Just make sure you have a mask and snorkel with you to see the city underwater even better.

The beach has sand, small pebbles, and clean, blue waters that deepen gently, but take care with sea urchins (it's a good idea to wear water shoes). It's close to Gialasi beach, which is considered the largest beach in the area.
